SHARK WEEK

A skilled local photographer out of Beaufort, North Carolina, Scott Taylor, took some amazing shark filled photos of the water just north of Atlantic beach, and above the inlet between Fort Macon and Shackleford Banks.  Many folks in our area grew up swimming and boating in these waters, so it came as a shock to many when the frightful photo appeared on the front page. Here is Scott Taylor’s email and some of the pics.  We take a lot of aerial photos at RS ourselves —  I am thinking of giving Scott a call:

Scott says:

I was flying in a helicopter this morning during a boat shoot. We flew across the waters between shack and Fort Macon. The pilot looked down and said “these guys are here all the time”. I’d say there were, oh, 300-400 of them in the group. When we dropped to take a closer look they seemed to be about 6 or so feet average, maybe larger.

Next time you’re tubing in the area keep this in mind. Dangle those feet with care.

Image #1 is for location. The west tip of Shack is in the background. Image #2 shows the east tip of Fort Macon.
