“Taxpayers shouldn’t pay twice for one job”

Once was enough for water work, thank you very much.

“Put this in the category of Huh? It’s hard to believe, but the state of North Carolina agreed to pay a Maryland company almost $1 million earlier this year to remove excessive nitrogen from the Neuse River Basin – but the state had already paid $1.8 million for the same work in 2001 and 2002 as part of a larger contract to replace lost wetlands.

“And here’s the truly confounding thing: There are no state regulations designed to prevent this kind of double-dipping. There ought to be. But state officials said there not only isn’t a law against it, this isn’t the first time the state has allowed a double-dip payment for environmental work, the N&O reports.”
